I would like to congratulate the Commonwealth of Virginia, for passing this bill. It not only works in favor of the teachers but also the student mothers who are breastfeeding.
Before this bill was passed the teachers and students who were breastfeeding mothers, were unable to pump or feed until their lunch break, where as in other places of work, the employers are required to have a private room just for the usage of pumping and feeding. As well as allowing breaks for the mothers to express milk as needed or at least every 2 hours.
In the schools this was not allowed, and for most teachers and students this means going hours without pumping. It can be very painful, cause breast infections and loss of milk supply. With this law ,schools are required to have a private a room for pumping, and the room is available to staff and students as needed.
